I recently moved into a new decade of being alive, so I think I can safely say that things like the hardness in my stock seat is hurting my butt and my back. Any more than 30 miles and my tailbone goes numb. Not sure if it’s always been like that and I didn’t really care, or I’m going into year 5 of ownership and I’m OLD.
I was, and if this doesn’t work, will consider a Corbin seat. However, I’m a cheap-ass so I started with one of the cheapest aftermarket seats I could find. Something off Steady Garage for $75. This seat is just as hard as the stock seat, but looks a big nicer. You get what you pay for.
But since I have this second seat, I figured I’d try my hand at making my own. I bought some 3 inch high density foam and diamond stitched leather on eBay for about $40 and went about tearing up the stock seat. Cleaned and prepped for the new foam.
I’ve never shaped foam, so this is part 1 of who knows how many. I had some leftover spray adhesive from my jeep’s headliner, so sprayed the foam and the seat pan. There is quite a bend up in the front, so it took a couple of adhesive sprays and clamps to get everything mated together.
Once I got everything together, I cut off the excess foam now comes the unknown difficulty of shaping and covering. Stay tuned…
